because
because i became a nomad drifting up and down mullholland making music in bedrooms and castles and then studios - or because the music made me a nomad when we left the castle suddenly without renaming the village or anything like it - well because of all this i'm living in a hotel next to the main line heading south - i can hear the cathedral bells and the roar of the traffic but - and this is the important bit - well placed to wander to patti smiths meltdown - the patti melt - on the southbank - the only reason to live in london. on tuesday after trying to find a more settled abode we wandered to pages from chaos - a homage to william burroughs - readings and memories with guitar accompaniment from marc ribot in the first half and jason spaceman in the second. patti danced around and played her clarinet and tilda swinton came on - still dressed as the thin white duke and read. today after getting emotional with the bangladesh cricket team we saw richard hell read from his excellent new novel. he was good and honest. it was still light wandering back to the hotel - the longest day.

whilst meandering london one has to wonder who the comedy barber is and why gentleman have decided to look so absurd - having been a punk and the inventor of new romanticism (have i mentioned that before?) i am no stranger to the odd haircut but there is something infantile going on here - and men are all seem to be lardy boys.

last night in comedy camden i saw the towers of london - a band based on a fairly decent polaroid of johnny thunders but with a whiff of the bricklayer on lead vocals - actually many real punk bands whiffed the same so - good luck to them. also duel who were genuinely very good - i wonder if fate will let them escape the lamaq camden crawl?

the next two nights in front of television - the coral sea - us uk folk connections - finally horses with tom verlaine & john cale - this really is the life - when i was a kid this would have seemed like heaven - they came so rarely - but they did come to barbarellas and to birmingham odeon - i'm happy that it still seems heavenly - pleased the weather is so nice for our new york icons & inspiration sx

lilac8
Just spent the day with Claire and she sang me bits of my own songs - most I couldn't remember - until I promised we'd make another Lilac Time album. It has been a long time now. Thank you for your patience sx
