writing
I haven't written here as we have been writing and recording on the other side of the room and preparing to write and record some more - maybe in another room across town. It's wonderful when something new is created were before was only random chords and an empty hard drive. When Scorsese lost the Oscar I took to my bed and watched New York New York. Or did I take to my bed because I'd been involved in a one man drink your weight in champagne competition the night before? Legendary. Life is pretty much at this table everyday - as some things are started and other things finish. I'm reading "Memoirs of Hecate County" (The Princess and the Golden Hair) I do as I'm told. I miss taking pictures, the photolog is so hot right now. My Korg porta studio sits in the sun mocking me and the idea that I'd actually contemplate recording another album. Just not today x

The trip across town to the airport
Having never lived so far east I am unused to seeing all of London as I leave. From Borough and Bankside - home to recent life - to The National Theatre NFT and Royal Festival Hall. At which point I wondered what inspired me to go to a whole season of Fred Astaire movies in the late eighties. I'm glad that I did and had the time - everyone else was a pensioner there. All of the great songs of the mid 20th century seemed to have been written for him. If I ever live in London again it would be within walking distance of the NFT. Just in case they have another season of Fred. Then we drove by the London Eye and Westminster. Buckingham Palace and Victoria before Kensington and all of the ghosts thereabouts. The motorway the airport and now I'm here. On the flight I read the Arty Greatest Hits and Bella Freuds Another Document in Another Magazine whilst listening to Goats Head Soup it all seemed to fit together but I had taken 2 melatonin and proceeded to sleep for six hours. Having not readjusted to London time I had no lag this side so I went to Amoeba and got The Complete Hank Williams (10 compact discs) Woman Kind by Iron and Wine, M Wards Transistor Radio, Superwolf by Sweeny and Billy and Waiting for the Sun by the Doors - maybe I was jet lagged. I was about to get the new New York New York and Raging Bull dvds when I saw the new Scorsese box. So now I have a spare The Last Waltz and Boxcar Bertha. Tout Va B!en By Godard and Jean Pierre Gorin is out too. Whilst lagged in London I watched the Cat Power dvd - she stands next to some trees and sings for 2 hours. I liked it but for the non lagged casual viewer I would worry. Willie Deadwilder the 19 minute song on the other disc is great. M Ward plays the guitar. I first heard of M Ward when the guy from Rough Trade Talbot Road cycled past me and shouted "M Ward". I immediately went into the shop and bought the first album. Rough Trade is the only thing I miss about living in Notting Hill. Now I'm here. I forgot my camera so fans of banal photography will have to be patient. Lyrics are being written. I have a new Korg cassette porta studio - I love it and intend to record the new Lilac Time album on it. Have they stopped making cassettes yet? Since i've been writing this it's got dark and we have guests so I will stop x
