yes folks welcome to the cookie and the cupcakes appreciation society home home on the web. we are struggling towards september and bethlehem to be released. meaning the film and the album will be out in september. both are finished and are being pressed and dressed as we lie here. two eighteen track cd's is a lot of music. the credits, lyrics, thanks and apologies are the size of a small encyclopedia. i also have a small museum of visuals. quite how this is going to fit into the delightful plastic "jewel" case i haven't entertained. it was amazing to get the half inch tapes out of the boxes in which they’ve sat for so many years. I remembered the labels being peeled and affixed onto the cardboard boxes; such was life in those strange mid twenties. unfortunately it’s the later stuff that seems to get lost. DAT tapes just go squawk these days. the book may be a bit late as the hardback is so huge that I was considering releasing the paperback first, but i’ve been talked out of that by mal. so the first edition of the book will have the debut release of the film on dvd plus a cd of demos and live performances from over the years. we may have to ask you to commit to this in advance as I don’t have enough room for anymore unsold copies of anything in my moms shed, no way. there is a live album of the green man and qeh mixed but that will have to wait for next year. we will however put out nicks Sapphire Stylus in this 09 and perhaps the lilac times Covers Album too. then claires album and my fiftieth birthday album of musings lit by that same ironic, tender and rueful regard. anyway just letting you know that jay "bird" uzzell is on the case x |

So I went to London and mixed the two new tracks for the anthology Memory & Desire. One is called Memory & Desire and one is called Kiss Me With Your Mouth. A thirtieth anniversary recording and I think I’ve finally nailed it. Now we're trying to get the book, album and film to all flower at the same time. Meaning the book and the album will be available at the same time the films first screenings. No dates yet but I thought I’d let you know it's happening. Oh and it's really happening. Just please remember that the future is a faded song, a Royal Rose or a lavender spray of wistful regret for those who are not yet here to regret, pressed between yellow leaves of a book that has never been opened. | memory & desire film is being finished in toronto - memory and desire double album record is being mastered in cornwall and london - memory & desire song to be single - kiss me as if remembered by nico ends the album - autoharp harmonium and hammer dulcimer to the fore - life is cold the palms and frog spawn die - but the work goes on - we will miss the april 5th release date but not by much - we will arrange for you to see the film and tell you how - you'll have to order the album to get the book - we will explain - and in the end it will all mean something and we will be left with a sweet taste in our mouths our minds and our beds. bless you all my very good people and dogs x | ||

hello friends we're still umming and erring about subscriptions or just putting out the discs as they happen. first thing will be "memory & desire 30 years in the wilderness with stephen duffy & the lilac time" first week of april 2009 on universal. a 2 cd treasury encapsulating my 30 glorious years in this business that used to be a business. the film will be ready then too - same name - first festivals and then available for insertion stockingwise next christmas. nicks sapphire stylus has been ready for months so that may beat my resumé of falling over. then there will be the demo album shall we call that "peace centre" for now? the lilac times covers record which wont be called "uncle holly". much later and in no particular order claires album - a live/soundtrack album - cocksure - and a new stephen duffy & the lilac time album - "now we are fifty". . . sorry christmas presents anyone? also an old fart speaks the advert for memory and desire the book on amazon.co.uk is not real - you are dreaming - the book is still being written but there is no date of publication. i hope you all had a good year - we did - i'm glad i finally dropped out. but i cant believe that now we all have the information about where the money is that there still hasn't been a revolution from the street. opinion polls suggest the citizens of great britain will vote for the party that have always benefited the 3% who earn over £150,000 a year and defecate on everyone else. oh well governments can't really change anything anyway. as chomsky says, “changes and progress very rarely are gifts from above. they come out of struggles from below. and the answer to what’s next depends on people like you.” and a happy new year x |

The idea is four albums a year for two years - £40 a year. The eight albums will be Sapphire Stylus by Nick Duffy. Music from the film "Memory & Desire" (we recorded lots of acoustic tracks and rehearsals as well as the Green Man festival etc.) "Cocksure" (Because We Love You as Stephen Street and I mixed it before it all went a bit wrong). An album of demos - I'm trawling through the tapes to find amusing early versions. A Claire solo album. A covers album by Stephen Duffy & The Lilac Time (all new nothing previously released). Stephen Duffy & The Lilac Time Live at the QEH. And a Stephen Duffy or Stephen Duffy & The Lilac Time record. Mmmmm seems like a lot of work - I'll get back to you. . . x |
