anything by the everley brothers
back in cape town after severe durban poisoning. durban had a little of the wolverhampton with palm trees going on - and truly i love both. the show happened. whilst rob works the stage and the thrust the band perform on a stage based on the dimensions of the bull and gate - it's cosy and makes me feel at home. much to my surprise i only make one mistake - luckily it's really loud and obvious. we are honoured by the presence of chris heath. will folk look back and think of us as a kind of space age glimmer twins? i now find myself competing with chris coco to get arty and/or banal pictures of the tour up first - i took the picture of him on the boat at the canadian world cup firework display - not credited obviously. he's now reading the good life by jay mcinerney. whilst i have moved on to americana - the first novel by don delillo. i read it years ago and have completely forgotten it - penguin modern classics have just re released it. i've just finished checking the artwork for the lilac time and love for all - the three fontana albums now look great - i hope you love them too. between them they have probably only sold a few thousand copies since they were released in 87 89 and 90 - intensive care has now sold six million in less than six months - i look forward to writing some liner notes in twenty years for the re issue. i'm tired and listening to richard rodney bennetts third symphony on radio three. i'm relieved to find i haven't been elected prime minister of italy x

durban poisoning
it started to rain in durban so i decided to listen to the reith lectures on the radio 4 website. daniel barenboim almost immediately quoted nietzche "without music life would be a mistake". in other news hereford drew 1 - 1. hopefully soon it will stop raining x

fireworks
another day in the vineyard of song. as the great robert fripp said "music is the wine that fills the cup of silence" - i feel slightly tipsy and my ears are ringing. tonight we went out on a boat and saw some sort of world cup of firework displays - canada played tonight. then i came home and listened to radio 3 on the internet. it is quite an extraordinary existence. by the time the tour begins i will have been working with rob for three years and we only thought we'd write a couple of songs. talking of songs i almost have enough i like to record a lilac time album and enough guitars to start a shop. the first three lilac album reissues will be ready for an end of may release i think. they look beautiful and sound the same as they always have but with many extra tracks. take care everyone - music begins where words end x

cape town - you must have chaos within you to give birth to a dancing star
got to cape town via everywhere - a green volkswagen parked outside the window - there's a picture of it in "photos" - then it started to rain. the next day we bought sunglasses and looked at mountains. today we rehearsed out of town - it was loud but as friedrich nietzsche said “without music life would be a mistake" - he went on - "i would only believe in a god who knew how to dance.” now i'm enjoying the good life - the new book by jay mcinerney - and it's quiet x
