thanksgiving
In L.A. and giving thanks - and i think perhaps I should. The story so far: I was a folk singer who invented new romanticism - a taste of this can be found on the Devils album. In 1985 I had a hit record - everything was electronic and I was a bit of a ninny. For my next record I grew my hair and reverted to the folk style. I was dropped. So I started the Lilac Time & made 4 albums between ‘87 and ‘91. We brilliantly avoided the charts but went off the rails in the process. In ‘93 I made Music In Color for EMI. It was an extravagant Floydian gesture in a grunge and shoe gazing world. I was expecting plaudits and applause but the album was ignored and I flew to Winston Salem North Carolina and lived in the Holiday Inn with the Velvet Crush and started to record the Duffy album. Before being dropped by BMG I managed to make I Love My Friends too and then reformed the Lilac Time to make Looking For A Day In The Night - lilac6 and Keep Going. As if these 14 albums weren't enough I then am asked to help in the making of Intensive Care before traveling the world playing it to people. And it's sunny. Thanks xxx

mexico - i've been everywhere twice
Back in Mexico City with Paddington Bear. Everything swims along. The Duffy reissue is out and I trust you all love the new sleeve and my soul baring sleeve notes. Listening to the the Flamingoes at the moment wondering how they made such an amazing sound. Advertising Space is out soon as a single with interesting "b-sides". I Love My Friends is out on January 30th 2006 with Mao Badge In the Evening of Her Day Barbarellas House of Flowers Comedown Hey Kat and Holding Hands with Grace as bonus tracks. Universal are re-issuing the first three Lilac Time albums with extra tracks and the original artwork that no one saw at the time because it was pictures of hills and trees and not beautiful young chaps. Paradise Circus will hopefully be the double album it was meant to be - if we can get it onto one disc. Then everything apart from the they called him tin tin era will be out and They Called Him Tin Tin just about covers that. Claire & I have recorded our Lilac Time Christmas gift for you that will be available to the mailing list for free. Off to see the Aztec ruins - or maybe just the hotel bar. Loving The Young Knives single The Decision it's on Transgressive records x

television
Hello - it's been busy - Tripping is the European number one single in Billboard and with such success comes responsibilities - shirts have to match shoes - studios have to employ the right Thai Verte hand wash - self depreciating and morose liner notes have to be written for the ever expanding re release campaign as my entire catalogue is remixed in the by now de rigeur faux ska style. I have been crowned King of the Upper Sixth and I rest my case - but only for 2 or 3 hours a night.

Tomorrow - the 19th - BBC3 Making of Intensive Care. (A variety of cravats and hair do's pretend to make an album for the briefly present film crew. Thrill to my looks of nervous exhaustion and mental disarray. Well up when informed I am the "pseudo intellectual Noddy Holder"). Later that very night Ch4 show The Road to Berlin (Various pieces from Dior Hommes Autumn & Winter go to Berlin to sing some songs. Thrill to my looks of nervous exhaustion etc.) Friday John Ross BBC. Saturday Live In Berlin on Ch4. Monday Intensive Care the album comes out. x

Tripping & Make Me Pure released
Tripping is released on the compact disc and dvd formats. It is coupled with one of my favourite songs "Make Me Pure". Perhaps the most wonderful recording experience I've ever had. It was so simple. Unlike Tripping which took a very dark and complicated route to being the bollywood/ska classic that is this weeks number one on the uk's airwaves. Last night we played the Astoria which was fun. Tonight I'm eating spinach. Another re releases on the way - shortly after Duffy - I Love My Friends will appear with 7 extra tracks. Then I think all of my 90's albums will be available simultaneously for the first time. Maybe I'll go to City Tandoori to celebrate - they sell spinach too x
