| This week in Rockband studio | ||
| What a great week for writing. It all sounds great and it's joyous to be making a noise again. The photo's this week reflect my studio existence. I got the Cat Power Speaking For Trees : A Film by Mark Borthwick and the Arcade Fire album Funeral - both of which seem wonderful but I haven't exactly given them the time they deserve. I heard a captivating song that I think was called Nolita by Keren Ann that I will be buying if I ever leave the studio again. Apart from that it's been all shirts, fruit and Zelda Fitzgerald. The suns just come out after a day of rain. We're recording a beautiful song and dinners almost ready. I hope yours is too x | ||

| The Shirts | ||
| Writing songs here. In moments of lyrical impasse when you realise we're not writing anymore just surfing I get the feeling everyone else is blogging much more than me. And in greater detail. I'm wearing white shirts a lot. White shirts must be just about the most decadent thing right now. More detail needed. I'm still eating a lot of fruit for breakfast. I went to Future music and got an old Roland drum machine and a guitar like Ian Curtis played. I'll take a picture of it tomorrow for all you fans of banal pictures. Surfing time is over x | ||

| At lunch today we were seated across from Field Commander Cohen. It was good to see him and he looked good. This was how our day was made x | ||

| Formula One Art School Twilight | ||
| Having spent all but two of my endless winters in England I am guiless in my appreciation of winter sun - or these balmy summer days Californians call winter. It rained - but for the last couple of days I’ve been eating breakfast outside whilst reading the Wilco book. Even I find the Wilco book pretentious. Although I haven’t been to Amoeba yet - I have been to Book Soup. Today we rose early and drove out to the race track - to drive things quickly in the sunshine - see photo’s. I hadn’t driven for ten years and never in a helmet. I lived. At twilight as we pulled back onto the highway there was a beautiful sunset – one of those golden redded moments when it’s possible to believe that you were meant to be here and perhaps things might work out x | ||

| The Last Movie | ||
| Glad to see The Last Movie at the NFT before coming back to muddy California. I realised I'd only seen it on a black and white tv in my teens. It's better in colour. Now I'm back out here with my compadré writing and recording. Saw Tony Philips who produced Paradise Circus yesterday for the first time since he mixed Julie Written On The Fence. Should I Stay Or Should I Go just came on the tv advertising Pontiac. On the "news" earlier in a breaking story about model car racing they used Remote Control as the soundtrack. At www.rettswood.com amongst the inspiring portraits and journals I occasionally appear. Not that this should keep you from checking out my increasingly repetitious banal photo's. I hope you experience the new year you desire x | ||
