london town
so back to london and strangely for me work. i've never had a job before so this is quite a novelty. i go to rehearsals and tell the band what song to play and when to have lunch - if i'd have known jobs could be so enjoyable i might have got one earlier. of course i did also have that job stuffing envelopes for the GPO so i could buy a pair of leather trousers in 1978 - i almost got thrown out of art college for that. i hope this job doesn't have such serious consequences. i don't think i'll be buying any leather trousers this time though. 48% of me thinks thats a dire idea. after rehearsing we'll be playing on a variety of light entertainment programmes on the television - i pretend to have seen them but to be honest the last time i watched tv michael foot lost the general election. i'll warn you in good time - i'll be the one at the back with the harmonica. i had a hair cut in LA but it's grown quickly and it's sort of early brian jones at the moment. i just looked in the mirror and that is a lie. i'm the one with the strangely grown in not short or long hair. why does the back grow so much quicker than the front? my head desires a mullet. talking of crazy old hair do's the velvet crush and mathew sweet are at the astoria 2 - which is now called the mean fiddler - on sunday which is exciting. the last time i was there i played and it was britpop. the next day we flew back to france and resumed our tour with lloyd cole and i got influenza and thought i was dying in lille. claire is in both robs band and the lilac time and must find it amusing that i'm having to encourage sensible rehearsing when the lilac time dont really do that sort of thing. it looks like keep going is going to get a proper release in germany. it's out in japan or it's coming out on Pla-Flavour - no one tells me anything. music in color is re issued on the 27th of september - the same day that the deluxe crooked rain crooked rain comes out. i wonder if the pop renaissance lilac 7 inch is out yet. more than that i can't think of now. patti smith was great and then we walked back through carmel in the dark with an autographed album to a motel on the edge of town x

henry miller & things in general
"We’re creators by permission, by grace as it were. No one creates alone, of and by himself. An artist is an instrument that registers something already existent, something which belongs to the whole world, and which, if he is an artist, he is compelled to give back to the world." hm sexus

Just booked tickets for the patti smith benefit for the Henry Miller Library. Unfortunately just watched a bootleg dvd of Bukowski slagging Henry off, but you cant have everything. Anyway it's here. & see you there.

Just recorded an amazing overdub where i broke all of the strings on the Fender Mustang - admittedly the last one was broken with a screwdriver Thurston style. i was channeling a Subway Sect show at Barbarellas, in '78 i think. If only there was a way i could get off the bus and upload it to you all. . .

Saw Mt.Egypt at Spaceland the other week - he's working on a new album. i advise all those who haven't got the first one to buy it as he is a truly original voice and perhaps folk hero. He's into Eno now - we also do nothing without our Oblique Strategies.

Speaking to Aztec Moon has landed me in hot water and on Yahoo & Sky News. I will never talk about what i'm doing ever again. I think it's okay to admit that the two new tracks on Robs "Greatest Hits" which are set to be the next singles are called Radio and Misunderstood. Radio will be released on 4th October, while Misunderstood - which features in the new Bridget Jones movie 'The Edge of Reason' - will "hit" the shops on 6th December.

Oh perhaps that should be on my news page. . .

I love that song "Because something is happening here. But you don't know what it is
Do you, Bridget Jones?" Is that where she got the idea?

Later'd y'all or should that be y'all later'd - it's so hard to keep up.
