| word has reached me concerning cat power and her performance at the sheperds bush empire. i was unable to leave the castle grounds yesterday evening so some young friends of mine went in my stead. having spent many happy hours out of my mind vainly trying to remember why i was on a stage it's good to hear that the next generation is going the extra mile. sometimes you have to suffer with your fave raves, as you have suffered with me. and whatever happens the covers record will remain one of the greatest recordings of all time (insert moon pix or you are free or whatever is currently vibrating your creatures). talking of suffering with me. . .i don't think any real copies of the singles exist, whatever is being found on e-bay are most likely hastily disguised cd refs with covers as the tape modern under assistant promo man attempted (alas also in vain) to convince the sweethearts who control the airwaves that my voice should be heard. having not listened to popular music on the radio since 1979 i cant say it bothers me. i have a couple of new ideas for songs of my own that i will record and i've thought of a way of releasing the single but i haven't told anyone yet. as in most households it's been shins week here (that wonderful american naivety the children with parents or grandparents who owned zombies, hollies and csn&y long players - thank god for songs such as saint simon, pink bullets, gone for good & those to come - and how extraordinary to find them all on the same album). the bona world of julian and sandy has arrived in the post this morning courtesy of the bbc radio collection and the internet. the patti smith album is not out until april 26th but the void was filled by the release of bob live 1964. i must admit to a moistening of the eyes as the youthful voices of bob and joan joyously invoked mama you've been on my mind. life it seems is short. x | ||

according to the times today: "IT WAS ONCE the biggest insult in the rock lexicon, a byword for woolly-thinking whimsy and knit-your-own naffness. But in 2004 the f-word has never been cooler, seducing everyone from stadium-rocking superstars to hip young hopefuls. Folk music, it seems, is the new rock’n’roll. Which makes a wonky kind of sense, since it was arguably the old rock’n’roll in the first place. Call it neo-folk, post-folk, alt-folk, anti-folk, indie-folk, folktronica, folkadelica or just plain old folk. Whatever the label, the rising tide of rootsy acoustic acts, clubs, labels and festivals is hard to ignore. Right now there are few hipper names to drop than Nick Drake, the doomed early 1970s minstrel who has a new album of rare and unreleased material due in May. Even Robbie Williams is writing songs with Stephen Duffy, the born-again acoustic balladeer who once fronted Duran Duran." blimey. I don't know what's going on with the single. it certainly doesn't exist. maybe it's time to release a double seven inch vinyl single on an obscure american indie label. sleeved in aran. obviously. more soon. pull off your socks. x p.s. p.s. (patti smith) releases her new album on monday, see you in line. |

surprised as i am to find myself a "chillout cover star" i am in a forgiving mood but a bit worried about my neck, maybe i should give carole at la praire a call. donald's not very happy though. it was taken somewhere on the harrow road for london girls era me. hey i used to smoke. very britpop. now though i take my smoke passively and find myself listening to willis and living in a castle. actually i'm really listening to fleetwood mac demoes and outakes and living in a castle. redlands ahoy. on a recent day trip to london i popped into the cinema store on upper st martins lane to buy projections 13 and found paul schrader signing books. so i bought schrader on schrader again. this time its signed and has a better picture. in fact he looked very in focus and healthy. when i was in new york on my way home i picked up the hard rain dvd bootleg, over here it was shown on the old grey whistle test in 76 and that was it. it is exceptional and should be legitimately released. now i'm listening to the red crayola and sitting in a castle. this is someone else's itunes. i abandoned my trawl through the alphabet in puerto rico. anyway life is good. i presume i'm releasing a record soon - i must write a letter to the folk in the folk modern tepee and see what the deal is. the cover looks cool though. please chat at the duffylovers yahoo thing i enjoy a bit of a read but soon the clocks do their thing and then it'll be cricket on the village green. there was something else but i've forgotten. time to study the rain and chase my blues away x![]() |
